It's been a fun and busy time recently in Duluth when it comes to new businesses opening.

I recently shared the news that Carter's will be opening a new location inside the Miller Hill Mall this fall, bringing the nationally recognized children's apparel brand to the Northland for the first time.

For parents and grandparents in the area, it's a big deal. Carter's has had around seven locations across Minnesota, all of them in the Twin Cities metro and surrounding areas, making the Miller Hill Mall location the first in Northern Minnesota.

That alone would make for a good week. But good news isn't limited to over the hill, as downtown Duluth recently welcomed a new business, and it's having its Grand Opening this week.

The Lighthouse Spa & Boutique Opens In Canal Park

The Lighthouse Spa & Boutique has officially opened its doors in Canal Park, bringing a full-service day spa experience to downtown Duluth. After a soft opening on May 1st, the spa will host its official Grand Opening celebration on Wednesday, May 6th, with a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m.

The timing couldn't be better. The Grand Opening kicks off a full week of Mother's Day celebrations running May 6 through 10, with in-store specials, complimentary mini services, and community giveaways planned throughout the week.

The Lighthouse Spa & Boutique was created by co-owners Maddie Boo, Peter Saarela, and Shana Saarela, two of whom previously worked at a former spa in downtown Duluth.

They weren't looking to simply open another spa. They say they wanted to build something that genuinely belonged to Duluth — 'a place where employees are valued, where clients feel truly seen, and where the focus goes beyond relaxation into a deeper sense of wellness and community.'

They also had a lot of support along the way. The Northland Small Business Association, Downtown Duluth, and a circle of local business leaders provided guidance and encouragement throughout the process. Duluth showed up for The Lighthouse Spa & Boutique before it ever opened its doors.
