UPDATE: On Monday (April 17th), the Portland Malt Shoppe posted on their Facebook page, writing they were pushing back their opening date due to the weather. They will now open on Wednesday, April 26th.

This is an incredible way to usher in the new spring season! Portland Malt Shoppe has announced their opening date for the 2023 spring season. They made the big announcement on social media Monday (April 10th).

So when will the Portland Malt Shoppe be open for the 2023 season? In just a few weeks! The iconic shop will be open for the spring season beginning on Friday, April 21st. They closed for the season in October and it has been a long few months without them.

The Portland Malt Shoppe is located along the shores of Lake Superior and is popular among locals and tourists who simply want a sweet treat from time to time, or all the time. The shop serves malts, hence the name, along with ice cream, sundaes and floats. They also have a long list of ice cream flavors and toppings.

Not only can you visit the Portland Malt Shoppe when they open later this month but you can also work there! They are looking for staff to join their team. If you are interested in applying, you can visit their website and scroll to the bottom of the page to apply. There is a button that says "application" you can click on.

The Portland Malt Shoppe is a big part of the Duluth area. It serves as a popular tourist destination but also as a sign that spring is here for locals. It has been around since 1989 when the owners bought the space. Prior to that, it was a boutique and before that, it was a gas station for the Northwestern Oil Company.

The hours for the season vary depending on the day and the time of the year. It is always a good idea to see what the hours are before you make the trek to downtown Duluth to check it out and eat a sweet treat. I don't know about you but I am already counting down the days.
