I-35 Traffic Changes Tied To Twin Ports Interchange Project Start March 13 For Duluth Drivers

Advancing construction work within the Twin Ports Interchange Project work zone on I-35 will cause a few traffic impacts for Duluth drivers for a two week period. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is alerting drivers to the work that will start on Monday, March 13.

According to MNDOT's advance details, work crews will be on site, installing a bridge girder and decking over the southbound lanes near Garfield Avenue and 27th Avenue West. In order to accomodate the work, drivers can expect the following traffic impacts along I-35:

• Southbound lanes will close from just north of Garfield Avenue to just south of 27th Avenue West.
• Traffic will be placed in a two lane, two way configuration on the northbound side of I-35.
• Due to the southbound lane closure, the southbound ramp to 27th Avenue West will also close.
• A ramp detour for 27th Avenue West will reroute traffic south to 40th Avenue West and then back to 27th Avenue West.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is sharing that they expect the traffic impacts to last about two weeks - ending by Friday, March 24. However, that date could be moved up if the road construction work is finished earlier or it could also be flexed further out - especially if inclement weather requires the lane restriction removal or delays the actual work.
