It's been another long summer of construction in Downtown Duluth. Superior Street has been undergoing a multi-year reconstruction project. The infrastructure needed replacing in downtown as some of it actually was still from the 1890's. Today, on November 16, the City of Duluth announced that the street is open for traffic.

In a Facebook post, the city thanks their staff and the contractor hired for the job: Northland Construction. The huge project is wrapped up for this year, with minor work being done in the spring. Crews ran out of time to completely finish some sections. Asphalt was laid down in early November to "button up" the street for winter.

People seem to be very relieved that Superior Street has reopened. The work although necessary, was rough to deal with. The City of Duluth also thanks the business owners downtown for their patience during the construction.

Our studios are located on Superior Street, and I can tell you that the construction crews have been working before the sun goes up to after the sun goes down each day. It also was a strange year for weather for these workers ranging from 80 degrees to snowing in just a few days. Last week crews made the finishing touches including painting parking spaces on the asphalt. Temperatures were already below average and below freezing most mornings.
