It was beautiful weather on Saturday in Carlton for the annual Harold's Fiasco Golf Outing. That may have been a contributing factor to the 243 registered golfers for the event. That's a record number! After all the money was counted, the single day event raised $21,400 for the kids at St. Jude Children's Research hospital. Harold Ankrum and his family and friends in Carlton have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the hospital over the years.

Each year the Saturday before Labor Day is when the golf outing takes place, so you can plan ahead for next year. It's a fun time golfing on the 9 hole executive course. B&B is always there grilling up food. Harold is usually driving around schmoozing with golfers or more likely giving them a hard time. You can enter raffle drawings, win prizes on holes, and even score a great deal on the live auction. Many local businesses and folks donate items for the auction. In fact a friend donated a larger than life size Sasquatch to the Fiasco. It quickly became Harold's mascot.

Also Harold's Fiasco honors a "Volunteer of the Year" with an award. This year Jeff Holmes and family were recognized. Congratulations Jeff and thanks for all you do!

Not stopping there, the Carlton crew has added more events throughout the year to raise money for St. Jude. In the spring they have Harold's Annual Flippin Flapjack Fiasco which is a pancake fundraiser for St. Jude. This last spring was the lockdown for COVID-19 so they weren't able to have the pancake feed. What they came up with instead was a drive by donation set up. Volunteers wore masks and had long handled buckets they held out for people to put their donations in from their cars. They weren't sure how the turnout would be, but were shocked at how many people came by with their donations. When I talked to Harold on Saturday, he said they had people continue to drop off donations for months following that event at Harold's Service Center in Carlton.

So now with the $21,400 raised this weekend and the money raised from the drive by donations, they have raised over $30,000 this year for helping the kids at St. Jude. That's quite impressive from this very giving group of folks. Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and anyone who has participated and donated!
