Every once in awhile, I like to cruise real estate listings and dream about homes I could never afford. As I was doing that recently, I stumbled onto this Iron Range residence that looks more like a Hollywood star's California residence than something you'd find tucked in the woods just outside of Virginia, Minnesota.

When I first saw this listing, I actually had to double-check on Google Maps to see if this was a real house. The photos (below) seriously look like something you'd see as a celebrity getaway in California or some other posh location. The street view of the address is super nondescript. Trees, a paved driveway, and a pretty modest mailbox and gate. Travel down that driveway, and WOW!

I almost didn't believe it until I looked at a satellite view of the address. Nestled in the trees off Bourgin Road, a half mile from Virginia, is a palatial estate up for sale that looks absolutely incredible. Most of the $1 million+ homes that go on the market in Northern Minnesota tend to have log cabin vibe or some other rustic look. The design, brick façade, pool, and landscaping departs from that stereotype.

This luxurious estate is listed with Keller Williams Classic Realty NW has an asking price as of the time of this post of $1.875 million, offering what the listing calls "Glensheen Mansion quality workmanship", drawing a line of kinship between this residence and the famous mansion-turned-museum in Duluth.

It's easy to see how someone might draw some parallels, considering woodworking and design in and around this property. That said, this property is significantly newer. Glensheen was built between 1905 and 1908, while this home was built in 1984, and has been completely remodeled by the current owners over the course of 14 years to offer the home you see today.

Sitting on 29.81 acres, this 9,720-square foot, two-story home features a two-stall garage, 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, 7 fireplaces, a private bar with wine storage, private library, trophy room, billiard room, pool, luxury gazebo, exercise room, and sauna, among other things.

Assuming you could swing the $375,000 down payment and get the 3.125 interest rate the agency's payment calculator auto-populates, you'd be looking at the low, low monthly mortgage payment of $7,550/month on a 30-year loan. Worth it, right? Haha.
