
Weird Shaped ‘Flying Control Tower’ Spotted Over Northern Minnesota
I heard an unfamiliar noise when I was out on the lake this weekend. We were enjoying a beautiful mid-September day in central St. Louis County. There were hardly any clouds, and it was one of those bittersweet end-of-summer kind of days at the lake.
I was keeping an eye on the skies for a potential F-35 sighting, since the 148th announced they were doing an integration training. The Norwegian Air Force and Duluth's 148th are training for joint operations. The Norwegian unit operates the F-35 Lightning, while the 148th operates F-16 Fighting Falcons.
I heard the sound of a big jet, flying much lower than we typically see. It flew over the treetops at a few thousand feet. To my surprise, the jet had a giant disc above it. I've seen these planes in movies, but never in real life.

The 148th has advised the public about the increased exercises and noise that will continue this week. Flights will cover portions of Northern Minnesota, Northern Wisconsin, and the U.P. of Michigan this week. Keep your eyes out for the free show!
