Polygamous Sect Featured In Netflix Documentary Tied To Minnesota + Wisconsin
A 2022 Netflix Documentary tells the story of the Fundamentalist Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the rise and fall of its leader Warren Jeffs. Jeffs was convicted of two felony counts of child sexual assault.
At one point Jeffs was a fugitive and was placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List. He is currently serving a life sentence for his crimes. The heinous crimes involve raping a 15-year-old child bride, aggravated sexual assault, and raping a 12-year-old child bride.
The Documentary mini-series has a 91% positive score on Rotton Tomatoes. I watched the first part last night, and it was chilling. This stuff happens out there, but this all took place in Texas, Utah, and Arizona. That doesn't happen around here, right?
FDLS Believes in One Prophet and Placed Marriages
According to the documentary and other news sources, the FLDS believes they have one prophet that God only works through and has all the Priesthood Keys. They believe that God commands that in order for a man to receive the highest form of salvation to have a minimum of three wives. Seth Jeffs, brother of the convicted FDLS prophet Warren Seths has been tied to several compounds across South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. A company tied to Seth Jeffs was building a 5,670-square-foot building on 40 acres west of Grand Marais. The SC Times reported that Cook County Officials issued a cease-and-desist order after wetland violations were found.
Jeffs previously had a compound in South Dakota but was forced to sell it to settle debts by a South Dakota court.

In 2023, The Leader-Telegram reported that Seth Jeffs purchased four parcels of land adding up to 80.5 acres of land. It's near the Town of Lucas, Wisconsin.

Lucas, Wisconsin is just west of Menomonie, Wisconsin. Neighbors in Dunn County have expressed concern about the property and what is going on there. Law enforcement has stated there isn't much they can do unless there is evidence of a crime, and false tips have been a problem in the past.
Purchasing land and building a compound isn't illegal as long as the proper permits are in place.
