Minnesota Sheriff’s Office Issues Urgent Scam Warning

This is just terrible for so many reasons! A Sheriff's Office in Minnesota is warning locals about a new scam that is targeting people in the area, especially seniors.

Beware Of This Blacktop Scam

This scam all has to do with blacktopping services. The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office shared a warning about this scam just the other day, saying they've been made aware of this scam in the area.

This could easily happen anywhere in Minnesota now, especially because those involved might have to get out of the area to continue this scam now that word has gotten out about it.

How Does This Scam Work?

According to the warning, this scam involves a company that offers blacktop services. While the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office didn't name names, they did say that this particular company performs 'poor or incomplete' blacktop jobs.

What's the point of that, you ask? They use this hack job to intimidate the person paying for the service to pay even more than originally planned so they can 'fix it' and do a better job for a higher fee.

The Scam Targets Senior Citizens

Perhaps the worst part of this scam is that it is targeting senior citizens in particular. While it is in Minnesota now, it has happened all over the country in other states. Look out, Wisconsin.

The warning ends with the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office advising residents, especially seniors, to get everything in writing so you don't get scammed! The office also suggests not paying for anything until work is finished and do research on any company you hire for a service.

Interestingly enough, they also state that you should not use any company that shows up at your house unannounced. It is likely that this is how these scammers, or this business in question, are getting business in the first place!
