The M&H gas station on Superior Street in Duluth underwent some changes this week. I noticed driving by that they were getting their canopy updated and a fresher look. I was happy to see that because it's a sign that they are investing in the long-standing gas station and that it will hopefully be around for years to come.

The M&H has always been one of the cheapest places in town to get gas. I remember my dad always pointing to the M&H sign growing up when we would drive by on I-35 to check on gas prices when we got back to town.

Their headquarters is in Hudson Wisconsin, and you can see here what the M and the H stand for. The headquarters is Miller & Holmes, Inc. It's named after the founders of the company that wasn't even a gas station when they started back in 1896. They were a wholesaler of butter, cheese, eggs, fruit, and produce.

Then 11 years later in 1907 they opened up a creamery and added poultry to their product line. With the introduction of automobiles, the company shifted direction decades later.

In 1931 they opened their first gas station, and by the time World War II was over, they dropped the butter, creamy, and poultry line and focused on selling gasoline and diesel fuel.
