After growing up and enjoying life as a lifelong Minnesotan, I'll admit there's a weird little thing in my brain that gets excited when my home state gets a little recognition by some big national media outlet.

Maybe I've just been conditioned to feel like we here in flyover country don't get a ton of attention by large national shows, unless it is some sort of news event. Of course, those are often times you don't want to be in the national spotlight.

I got a thorough kick out of when Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show' came to Duluth for a segment in a winter 2024 episode of the show.

Here I am again today, doing a full-on impression of Leonardo DiCaprio from "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", pointing at a screen over a pair of videos from the weekly show CBS Sunday Morning. Yep, the show with the trumpet intro your grandparents used to watch. It's still on the air, and part of the "chill vibes" the show embraces is a look at beautiful places.

They've recently shared video footage of two different Minnesota locations that highlight some of the beauty of fall in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

The first video is from the beginning of September, showing off the beautiful scenery at Winnewissa Falls, located at Pipestone National Monument just north of the city of Pipestone in Southwestern Minnesota. Here's a look:

The second video heads further north, showing off some stunning visuals around Itasca State Park, southwest of Bemidji. Originally shared in October of 2024, the show's social media re-shared the stunning video a few days ago to kick off fall.

With a look at some of the park's wildlife and the fall colors popping at the headwaters of the Mississippi River, it's an enjoyable little watch! Here it is:

Both of those videos have something in common - besides both being filmed in Minnesota.

Both pieces were captured by videographer Kevin Kjergaard, who works for CBS affiliate KELOLAND TV in Sioux Falls.

Kevin has had a number of pieces appear on CBS Sunday Morning. Along with the two above, his Facebook page highlights some other pieces that include a video shoot in Nebraska showing sandhill cranes, sunflowers in South Dakota, and eagles over the Missouri River (also in South Dakota).

Nice work, Kevin!
