The Minnesota Vikings Season Can Go 6 Ways Now At The QB Position
With the news that JJ McCarthy won't be quarterbacking the team for the next couple of weeks, it really brings into focus what could happen now that there is some uncertainty under center. Here are the 6 different ways the season can go with JJ out injured.
Wentz Balls Out
If Carson Wentz comes under center and takes the Vikings offense to new heights, I don't think you'll see JJ back as a starter this season. The window to win in the playoffs is pretty much right now, as you don't want to waste another year of Jefferson.
Wentz Fills In To An Average Level
With JJ McCarthy out with an ankle injury for the next few weeks, it opens the door for former North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz to lead the purple and gold. While he has the opportunity to lead the offense, all eyes will be on him, as JJ has struggled in the first 7 of 8 quarters he has played as the starter.
If Wentz is average during his time leading the Vikings, chances are that when JJ is healthy, the baton will be handed back to him for the remainder of the season, while Wentz is the primary backup.
Wentz Plays Awful, Opens Door For QB3
If Carson Wentz plays...awful...it will open the door 'potentially' for former Minnesota Golden Gopher QB Max Brosmer to get the start in either week 4 or if the level of play from Wentz is really bad against the Bengals, possibly as soon as after halftime this Sunday.
If Brosmer balls out IF he gets the chance to play with the starters, when JJ is healthy, you might just see KOC ride the hot hand of the former Gopher and PJ Fleck prospect.
Brosmer Plays Average After Getting The Nod
Another scenario at quarterback for the Vikings is that Brosmer starts after either Wentz struggles with the offense OR gets injured. If Brosmer comes in and plays average, the chances are good that when he gets healthy JJ goes back under center with Brosmer moving to QB2 on the depth chart.
Both Backups Are Awful
Let's hypothetically say JJ is out just 2 weeks. If the Vikings go through both Brosmer and Wentz and both struggle to the level that JJ has the first 7 of 8 quarters this season, the purple faithful will likely see JJ back under center to get reps and development this season.
No One Is The Answer - Trade For A Veteran
The least likely situation is that the Vikings run through both Wentz and Brosmer, AND JJ isn't ready to go for some reason, you could see the Vikings make a play to bring in a 'back-up' QB that would be ready to start...Kirk Cousins, anyone?

This Was All Reckless Speculation
Of course, this is all speculation, and as I wrote this, I heard Aaron Jones is going to the IR, and the Vikings have brought in another backup into the quarterback room at Twin Cities Orthopedic.
