Minnesota Police & DNR Targeting Impaired Boating This Holiday Weekend

Everyone wants to have a fun and safe holiday weekend, right?  It's unofficially the halfway point through the summer, and no one wants summer to go away that quickly.  So we all like to do as much as we can while it's not completely uncomfortable outside.

Much of those activities, especially on a long holiday weekend, includes activities and fun and sun on the water.

THERE IS A CRACKDOWN ON ALCOHOL USE WHILE ON THE WATER THIS WEEKEND

The Minnesota law enforcement along with the DNR are targeting the lakes and rivers around the state making sure people are having fun, but also being safe.  That includes a crackdown on drinking and boating.  You can still get a DUI on the water - would that be a BUI?  Boating Under the Influence?  Anyway, if you are the person in charge of driving your family and friends around on the boat this weekend, make sure that you are aware that the same rules apply.  Don't drink and drive.  Maybe switch off from day to day too.  That usually helps if someone wants to drink - then they aren't the one staying sober the entire weekend.  Just a thought.

OPERATION DRY WATER AND WHAT THAT MEANS FOR YOU

It's Operation Dry Water, and it is a nationwide push for sober boating.

During the annual Operation Dry Water heightened awareness and enforcement three-day weekend, law enforcement officers will be on heightened alert for those violating boating under the influence laws. Law enforcement agencies that participate in Operation Dry Water are asked to increase BUI enforcement during the targeted enforcement weekend of Operation Dry Water, July 3 - 5.

Just something to keep in mind, and to make sure you have all the life jackets you need, the correct amount of people for your watercraft and all the other rules that you are supposed to abide by.  You don't want to give them a reason to question you.
