The City Of Duluth announced they have partnered with the YMCA to offer lifegaurd services again at the Park Point Beach House.

According to a press release, the services will last all summer long and begin Memorial Day. The services offer a safe place for people to enjoy Lake Superior. As we all know living in the Northland there have been people that had to be saved by a trained lifeguard from the undertow that happens just out from the shore. The waves often carve out the sand underneath the water and create drop-offs.

The funding as stated in the City Of Duluth Press Release came from the 2021 Tourism Tax allocations of $25,000. This is the 13th season that the YMCA has provided this service for the City of Duluth, said Emily Ranta, Executive Director of the Duluth Area YMCA, she went on to say in the press release,  “While Duluth summers are beautiful alongside Lake Superior, it is imperative that users understand the risks associated with big-water swimming, including cold water temperatures, sudden weather changes, and RIP currents. We encourage you and your family to come down to the beach house, enjoy time by the lake, and learn more about Great Lake water safety from our Waterfront Certified Lifeguards this summer!”

The City of Duluth Press Release said the Duluth Fire Department will continue their beach safety by managing flags, electronic signs, and responding to emergencies. Flags and rescue stations will start at the end of May with up-to-date beach conditions that are posted on the Duluth Website and also www.parkpointbeach.org.

The press release goes on to say that the Park Point Beach House will have hours they are open for the public with food trucks to sell food and beverages. By the way, the City of Duluth would like Food Trucks who want to sell their goods to contact the city at https://secure.rec1.com/MN/duluthparks/catalog.
