It was an exciting draft night for the Minnesota Timberwolves, they had the first overall pick and surprised everyone with a trade for Ricky Rubio.

Rubio will return to the team who drafted him in 2009 and played 6 seasons with, the Wolves traded the 17th overall pick for Rubio plus the 25th and 28th overall picks from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Rubio was traded to the Thunder earlier this week from the Phoenix Suns in the Chris Paul trade. In the 2019-20 season with Phoenix, Rubio averaged 13.0 points, 8.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

Rubio will join the first overall pick, guard Anthony Edwards from the University of Georgia, All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns and All-Star guard D’Angelo Russell. This is a legit squad that will have Wolves fans howling all season long.

Rubio was always a fan favorite, so he will surely be welcome back to the organization with open arms. According to the Star Tribune, Rubio has "two years remaining on a 3-year contract that pays him about $17 million per year."

The 75th season of NBA basketball is scheduled to start on December 22nd with each team playing 72 games and there will be a Play-In Tournament to decide the 7th and 8th playoff seeds in each conference.
