A shooting overnight in Minneapolis marks the 50th homicide in the city so far in 2022.

The shooting, near Target Field, on 4th St. North between 1st and 2nd Ave. left one man dead and two others hospitalized after a fight broke out inside a nearby business and spilled out onto the street. Police were called to the scene around 1:30 AM.

When the Minneapolis Police arrived on the scene, they say that the fight escalated quickly and gunfire erupted, some of which came from fully automatic weapons according to police.

One man, that was seen running from the shooting, was taken into custody after the incident, KARE 11 is reporting that, "officers found a gun on the suspect during his arrest, and confiscated a second weapon at the scene."

Police describe a chaotic scene during and after the shooting, FOX 9 is reporting that tensions between the crowd gathering at the scene and police were rising in the hours after the shooting, "Bystanders were upset the victim’s body remained laying in the parking lot, uncovered, until the Hennepin County Medical Examiner arrived just before 6 a.m. About five hours after the shooting."

One of the two men injured is in his 40s and is described as having life-threatening injuries, the other man was shot multiple times, but was not seriously injured. No Minneapolis Police officers fired any shots.
Compared to last year at this time, Minneapolis was at 60 homicides, so down a little, but the 3-year average is 17.6% above the average homicide rate. Most of the other crime statistics are up in Minneapolis, assault offenses are up 12.8% over last year at this time, and theft, both regular and motor vehicle, are both up over 31%.
