The Superior Police Department introduced the public to its newest officer over the weekend.

The new K9 officer is being handled by Officer Tyler Rude and is making its way from Hungry to the United States for training in February in St. Paul. The dog is an 11-month-old German Shepard/Belgian Malinois mix.

The new K9 officer is still without a name, and while Officer Rude has some ideas, they are looking for suggestions from the public. If you would like to submit a name idea, simply comment on the Facebook post below or follow this link.

Officer Rude and his K9 partner are expected to be patrolling the streets of Superior in the Fall of 2021 after their training is complete. The new dog will join Marik and Lacka, the other two K9 officers on the force.

Superior's K9 officers and other Northland agencies get much support for their dogs from the AMSOIL Northland Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation, if you would like to support their work or get more information you can visit their website here.
