If you're in the mood for a minty treat, stop by McDonald's for a Shamrock Shake and help out a good cause at the same time.

Nearly 230 McDonald's restaurants in Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and Ironwood, Michigan are participating in their yearly Shamrock Shake fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House. This includes all five Twin Ports area restaurants, the fundraiser is on now through Wednesday, March 17th.

This is the eighth year that participating restaurants have given 25 cents of each Shamrock Shake purchased to Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest and The Ronald McDonald House of Rochester. From 2014 to 2020 the Shamrock Shake fundraiser has raised more than $609,000.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home that families can use while getting medical treatments for a sick child. A new Ronald McDonald House just opened in Duluth at Essentia Health's Fifth Avenue Building.

Including the Duluth location, Minnesota is the home of 6 Ronald McDonald House facilities that can provide up to 146 rooms each night throughout the state. During 2020, the Ronald McDonald Houses in Minnesota helped over 7,000 families. There are 2 locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and the state's largest Ronald McDonald House just minutes from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester with 70 rooms.

These facilities not only benefit families from Minnesota and Wisconsin, but they housed families from 30 states and 11 foreign countries. Ronald McDonald House says that is has "saved families more than $4 million in costs for things like food, transportation & lodging."
