Nickerson's father, Hardy Nickerson Sr., was a five-time Pro Bowl linebacker for Tampa Bay in the 1990s. With setbacks for Cam Smith and Ben Gedeon, the Vikings need more experience backing up Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks.
