The Minnesota Renaissance Festival made a difficult, but not surprising announcement Wednesday regarding the 2020 event.

The decision was made not to hold the event this year and they made the official announcement on their Facebook page:

To Our Amazing Patrons & Participants,
We are profoundly disappointed to announce that the 2020 Minnesota Renaissance Festival will not be taking place this year.
We understand the impact of this decision on so many wonderful artisans, performers, participants, volunteers, and countless families seeking a place to celebrate and enjoy a touch of normalcy that our yearly festival tradition brings.
We worked hard the last five months to develop a plan and mitigation measures which we firmly believe would have resulted in a safe and healthy Renaissance Festival. However, it is clear that the current State directives will not change significantly in time to allow the Festival to open this fall. Although we disagree with the current State directives that prevent a spacious outdoor venue from opening, we recognize the difficulty of the State government’s task. We share their goal of keeping Minnesotans safe and healthy.
We will continue to have events that can be produced within the current directives such as the reimagined incredible FEAST OF FANTASY taking place the next 7 weekends. And the oh so spooky PHANTOM’S FEAST following in October.
We will be announcing a brand new very exciting event in the days ahead. We promise that you will not have to wait long for your turkey leg!
The Minnesota Renaissance Festival will return in 2021 and we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary and promise that it will be the grandest Renaissance Festival in all the realm.
2021 will be here before we know it and 2020 tickets will be honored in 2021.
• 2021 Season: August 21st – October 3; Weekends (Saturday & Sunday) + Labor Day and Festival Friday October 1, 2021

Add this popular event to the long list of things that have been impacted by COVID-19.  You can feel organizers frustrations in the announcement, but there really isn't much they can do in the current environment.  You can click here to sign up for festival news.

All I know is, once all this pandemic business finally passes there will likely be at least a full year of long overdue celebrations.
