Carlton County will be hosting a free Pet Microchip Event Sunday at Cloquet's Veteran Memorial Park. The event is free to Carlton County residents, while non-residents will pay $20 per pet to have them microchipped.
The Pet Microchip Event is Sunday, June 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both dogs and cats are welcome on first come, first serve basis. Carlton County residents must show proof of residency with a valid photo I.D. and there is a 3 pet limit per household.
Other things to keep in mind for the event include:
- Microchip applications must be completed.
- All pets at the event must be secured, leashed or be in a kennel.
- .Anyone who is COVID-19 positive or who is having any COVID-19 symptoms should not attend this event.
Having a microchip placed in your pet can play an important role should they ever get lost. According VetriScience.com:
Microchips not only help people find their lost pets, but they have also helped shelters return animals to their rightful owners more quickly. In addition to providing relief for the pet owner, locating owners more efficiently helps the shelter prevent overcrowding and reduce stress levels for all the animals.
Additional services will be available on June 27 for a fee. Nail trims are $10, while distemper and bordetella shots can be administered for $15 each, or $25 for both. Cash and credit cards will be accepted and staff will be available on-site to assist with registration for all services.
The goal for events such as this is to help reunite missing pets within our community with their owners as quickly as possible.
