Today has been another rough day for event cancellations, here is another one.

Not only did we learn today that the popular Bayfield Apple Festival has been canceled for 2020, now the City of Proctor has decided to cancel the 2020 HogHead Festival.

In a statement put on social media, Mayor Chad Ward said, "Unfortunately at the City Council meeting held on Monday, June 15, 2020, the Proctor City Council unanimously voted to not approve any HogHead events on any City-owned property, i.e. streets, parks, lots due to the HogHead Festival being canceled by the Lions Club due to COVID-19."

The mayor went on to say that this decision was the "safest and most responsible decision" that they could make right now.

The festival was scheduled to take place on August 10th - 15th with a variety of events including a parade, sporting tournaments, kids events, street dance, car show, fireworks, and much more.

The festival was celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, WOW! The popular gathering honors the city's railroad history. According to proctorhistorywalk.org, the railroad came to Proctor in 1891 after iron ore was discovered in Northern Minnesota in 1890.

And get this, during WWII Proctor was home to the largest iron ore railroad yard in the world with 75% of all the iron ore used to make steel for the war effort came through the town.

Mayor Ward says that "hopefully we can continue this long standing event next year." Yes, we couldn't agree more.
