First Mayor Jim Paine opens up activities for the Summer, then details are released for some of the events on the Superior 4th of July celebration.

The Superior 4th of July Celebration begins on July 2nd, with the 132nd Army Band playing at Barker’s Island Festival Park. According to the Army Band's History Page, They started as the Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1946 as the 32nd Infantry Division Band. After many changes, including being decommissioned, in 1967 they officially renamed the 132nd Army Band and relieved from assignment to the 32nd Infantry Division.

On July 4th at 9 am, the Dennis VanAlstine Memorial 4th of July Car & Motorcycle Show will start with a breakfast car cruise to Perkins in Superior. On Belknap Avenue at 11 am July 4th will be the Superior 4th of July Parade. There will be music later on Tower Avenue by Born Too Late at 1 pm, then a Pin-Up Girl contest at 3 pm with the Bordertown Betties with the awards at 4:30 pm. Popular Twin Porst Band Most Wanted takes the stage at 5 pm, leading up to Fireworks.

There is a lot going on at Barkers Island Festival Park with Food Vendors to take care of your hunger and thirst. Later there will be music sponsored by the Superior Refinery. Hornocopia will host the evening first with music at 6 pm, then at 8:15 pm, the entertaining variety cover band PopROCKS takes the stage.

The Superior Fireworks will be launched from a Roen Salvage Barge at 10 pm with the official soundtrack from KOOL 101.7 fm. A full list of activities is listed on the City of Superior Website.
