Former University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs captain Noah Cates will get his shot at the big times after being signed to a two-year entry-level contract that will begin this season with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Cates played four seasons with the Bulldogs and was a captain for two of them. Before that he was a captain of the Stillwater Ponies where he attended high school in Minnesota. In his senior year with the Ponies, he was a Minneapolis Star Tribune All-Metro Team honoree and the St. Paul Pioneer Press East Metro Player of the Year.

Cates was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers as the fifth round pick (137th) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.  Before he began his career in the NHL, he went to Duluth for an education. While at UMD, he scored 39 goals, and tallied 99 total points all in 139 games. He also helped lead UMD to two Frozen Fours (2019, 2021), and appeared on the 2022 USA Olympic Hockey team.

Coincidently, Noah's brother Jackson Cates also played for the Bulldogs and is also signed with the Philadelphia Flyers (he signed on April 13th back in 2021). You can check out a video they did together with the Flyers called 'Cates on Cates' here. Noah is set to make his debut with the Flyers on March 29th, 2022 as they play no other than the Minnesota Wild. Super stoked for Cates even though he's playing against our hometown team.
