Late last year, St. Croix Casino Danbury announced they would soon be offering the ability to bet on sports events within their casino.

This was a historic announcement as St. Croix would officially become just the second tribe in the state to offer sports wagering to the public. The start of this process took place on July 1, 2021, when Wisconsin Governor Evers announced alterations to the state's gaming compact with the Oneida Nation that allowed it to take sports bets.

In November, 2021, the Oneida Nation opened its sportsbook operation inside the tribe's main casino near Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport. It officially became the first location in Wisconsin where people could legally wager on professional and college sporting events. The lone exception was those sporting events which feature Wisconsin-based colleges.

St. Croix Danbury Casino Danbury acknowledged the Oneida nation blazed the trail in becoming the first Wisconsin location that allowed legal wagering on professional and college sporting events, while also adding that their intent is to make that trail a little wider. Now, they're ready to deliver on that promise.

St. Croix Casino Danbury, located at 30222 Sate Road 35/77, is ready to officially open their newest addition to gaming in Wisconsin. That means legalized sports betting will be available just over an hour away from the Duluth area.

On Saturday, April 16th at 4:00 p.m. they will celebrate the Grand Opening of the “Red Zone”, St. Croix Casino Danbury’s very own sports betting lounge. The public is invited to enjoy food, drinks and snacks.

The official Ribbon Cutting ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m.

As Wisconsin continues to move forward with legalized sports betting, Minnesota has yet to jump on that bandwagon but that could change. In March, 2022, a Minnesota bill legalizing sports betting made its way to a fourth committee after passing the House Judiciary Committee.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has said that he would sign a sports betting bill, but only if it has tribal agreement within the state, and that appears closer to becoming a reality.
