Major League Baseball Cancels Spring Training Games, Delays Opening Day
Similar to decisions made by the NBA and NHL, Major League Baseball has made the decision to alter their schedule due to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
The league shared a statement on Thursday afternoon, announcing the decision to suspend Spring Training games and delay the start of the 2020 regular season by at least two weeks.
The league says they will "continue to evaluate ongoing events leading up to the start of the season." They go on to say they have cancelled remaining Spring Training games, and the 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifer games in Tuscon, AZ has been postponed indefinitely.
They intend to "announce the effects of the schedule at an appropriate time and will remain flexible as events warrant, with the hope of resuming normal operations as soon as possible."
