The new guidelines issued today by the Minnesota Department Of Health go into effect immediately.

The updated guidance from the state keeps' restaurant capacity at 50% but increases the amount of people that can be seated together in a group, the previous limit was 4, or 6 if they were from the same household, the new limit is 10 regardless if they're from the same household.

This change does not affect tables in bar areas, the maximum number in a group will remain at 4. There is no dancing allowed and patrons in all areas must be seated. The 6-foot distancing requirements, facemask usage and restaurant reservations remain unchanged.

The state said in today's press briefing that the new seating requirements should give restaurants some more flexibility with seating arrangements and hopefully increase revenue for struggling restaurants.

This announcement comes just days after Wisconsin announced that it was going the other direction by limiting restaurants, bars and retail stores capacity to only 25% as cases spike in the state.
