It's been a busy week in sports as we've been following not only March Madness, but also a later than normal winter hockey season. Following the results from earlier this week, we have a better idea of matchups for both March Madness and Boys High School Hockey. It begins with the Section 7A Championship game Thursday night between the Duluth Denfeld Hunters and the Hermantown Hawks who are playing to see who will represent the Northland at the Minnesota High School Boys Hockey State Tournament next week.

We've done our best to provide equal coverage between Northland teams this year. Last Saturday The Northland FAN brought you the action as Hermantown beat the Proctor Rails 5-0 to advance. Last night Hermantown beat Virginia/Mountain Iron in a 8-0 shutout. Denfeld had automatically advanced to the semi finals after International Falls fell ill to COVID and was forced to forfeit. Denfeld defeated Hibbing / Chisolm 6-1. That now sets the matchup where Denfeld will play at Hermantown on March 25 (Thursday Night) at 7pm for the Section 7A Championship. Listen for a recap of all local sports on The Northland Sports page from 10-Noon every Saturday.

We'll continue to follow the team that advances to the Minnesota State Tournament. This year there are no consolation games due to COVID-19 changes. Whichever team advances will be "one and done." Let's hope whichever team advances keeps winning, and we'll keep bringing you the coverage on The Northland FAN. For all of our high school hockey games presented by St. Lukes, you can listen on air at 106.5FM, 560AM, or stream on the Northland FAN mobile app.
