A mislabeling issue in the manufacturing process has led to a recall on a brand of salad dressing sold at Aldi stores nationwide - including Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Northland.

According to details shared by the United States Food and Drug Administration, TreeHouse Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling a specific lot of their Tuscan Garden Restaurant Style Italian Dressing.  While the label says that the bottles contain Italian dressing, an error at processing plant applied those labels to what is really Tuscan Garden's Asian Sesame Dressing.

The conflict between the two labels allows for an unreported allergen issue.  The FDA details that the Restaurant Style Italian Dressing label "indicates the allergens egg and dairy are in the product while the Asian Sesame Dressing product contains the allergens soy and wheat".  Due to the issue, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this salad dressing.

Bottles included in the recall were distributed nationwide at Aldi between August 23, 2022 and September 23, 2022.  This includes Aldi stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Here are the identification details:

  • Product description:  Tuscan Garden Restaurant Style Italian Dressing
  • Size:  16-ounce bottle
  • UPC number:  4099100074871
  • Best If Used By date:  9/10/2023

No other styles of salad dressing are involved with this specific recall.  It's worth noting that there have been no known reports of illness or allergic reactions caused by this product at the present time.

This voluntary recall effort was spurred by two customer complaints at the store level, which directed the response from the company.

Customers who believe they have the recalled salad dressing in their possession are urged not to eat it.  It can be returned to the store where it was bought for a full refund.  Additional questions can be directed at TreeHouse Foods Customer Support line:  800-596-2902.
