Students From South Ridge School Raise Money In Memory Of K-9 Luna
The South Ridge Panthers in Culver Minnesota recently did a fundraiser for the Northland K-9 Foundation in memory of K-9 Luna a 3 year old Dutch Shepard who was the first female dog with the Duluth Police Department. On February 25 2021 officers responded to a home for reports of a domestic disturbance and learned that the male subject was wanted on felony warrants. The man refused to surrender and K9 Luna was deployed for an apprehension. The man fired a gun, killing K9 Luna. She had served with the Duluth Police Department for two years.
According to The Northland K-9 Foundation Facebook Page the students held a coin drive and raised $1557 in just one week and more donations are still coming in now. The school has students from Pre-K through High School. Students in the 5th grade raised almost $500 on their own. One of the teachers at the school Mrs. Cox made a video about the event.
In an update from the Northland K-9 Foundation Facebook Page a person who asked to remain anonymous matched the donation from the kids from South Range School and so now they have received an additional $1, 557. What a great example these kids have shown with empathy towards the officers and what a huge loss the department suffered with the loss off K-9 Luna.
Also if anyone is still interested in ordering a K-9 Luna commemorative t-shirt or sweatshirt, the ordering deadline has been extended to April 18. You can find more information and place your orders on the Northland K-9 Foundation Facebook page. Thank you to all the students and staff at the school and also the anonymous donor who was so kind to make that generous donation. We as a community can accomplish so much when we all work together.
