SummerFest Organizer Pulls Plug On 2021 Event In Hermantown

This is a bummer but we are used to it by now. The organizer of SummerFest has pulled the plug on the event for 2021.

As we have become accustomed to in 2020, the organizer cited COVID-19 as the reason for this year's event not going on as scheduled. Bob Swanstrom, said organizer, called it a "difficult decision" to not move ahead with the event this year. The event was also cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic.

Bob Swanstrom also asked that residents "support the community businesses" that take part in SummerFest every year, as they have been hit hard by the pandemic. The news was announced on the City of Hermantown's Facebook page Friday (January 15th).

Here's some good news, though: the event has already been scheduled for 2022! The event will now take place from July 20th through the 24th.

According to the city's website, the event has been a huge thing for the community dating back to the 1980s. It spans over the course of several days and includes free lunch, ice cream social events, open houses, a parade, a 5K race, sporting events and live music. That is just the tip of the iceberg of what this event offers. It typically happens the third week of July.So many events have had to be cancelled in 2020 and even in 2021, as we still deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. We are already counting down the days to the event next year and we will enjoy every single second after being without it for two years.
