The 2020 The Great American Beer Festival announced the winners of 272 medals and a few of those went to two Twin Ports breweries.

Congratulations to Hoops Brewing and Earth Rider Brewery, they were both winners at this year competition. Earth Rider Brewery won 2 silver medals, one for their Royal Bohemian Pilsner, and one for their North Tower Stout. Hoops brought home a gold medal for their 325 Pineapple Chili in the Chili Beer category.

The competition awarded 240 breweries across the country out of 1,720 breweries that submitted entries in 91 different categories covering 170 different kinds of beer.

Judges sampled 8,806 entries over 18 days and narrowed it down to the small handful of winning beers. You can see the full list of winners here. Each category had an average of 97 different entries, with Juicy or Hazy India Pale Ale being the most popular with 377 different entries.

This is Hoops brewing first medal at The Great American Beer Festival, Earth Rider took home the gold in 2019 for their Duluth Coffee Pale Ale, bringing their total to 3 medals.

“This has arguably been one of the most challenging years breweries have ever faced, so we hope these awards serve as a symbol not only of brewing excellence but also the resiliency of the craft brewing community as a whole,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager.
