UPDATE 3:11PM: The Vikings will return to in person operations at Vikings facilities Thursday, October 1.

Original Story: The Minnesota Vikings front office addressed the media today following yesterday's news that in-person club activities were suspended. The Tennessee Titans reported 8 positive cases just days after they were playing in US Bank Stadium. Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman and Head of Medicine/Athletic Trainer Eric Sugarman elaborated on how the team responded to the COVID-19 situation.

At 9am on Tuesday September 29 GM Rick Spielman received the phone call that the Titans had positive cases. The Vikings immediately began notifying staff to clear the building, and everyone was reported to be out by 10am. Spielman believes it took less than an hour.

The coaches then were set up with their IT department at home so they could continue their game planning for this coming Sunday's game versus the Houston Texans. As of today the team is holding virtual meetings. Spielman is optimistic that they may be able to return to the building tomorrow. If they are cleared to do that, they stressed that they will have more significant procedures for COVID-19 safety.

Eric Sugarman talked in depth about how they had expected and prepared for this situation to happen. They were acting with their Infectious Disease Emergency Response (IDER) plan, and knew the steps they needed to take to ensure health and safety. Spielman once again emphasized that health and safety remains their number one priority.

Sugarman also showed an example of their contact tracing device that every member of the team, staff, and personnel are required to wear whenever in a Vikings building, traveling with the team, and entering or leaving hotels. They receive them after they enter the facility during their health screening and temperature checks.

As of the press conference Wednesday morning there have been no positive cases among Vikings players or staff. Spielman says the team is prepared and ready to travel to Houston for this Sundays game. Sugarman ended the Facebook live video by asking the public and fans to be safe, as this virus is real and not "a political virus."
