When Does The Duluth Area Usually Get Its First Frost?

It is almost that time of the year again - when we make our transition into cooler temperatures and the eventually brutal cold.

Now that we are inching closer to fall, it wouldn't be out of the question for a few brisk mornings and our first frost of the season. This got me thinking, when do we see our first frost of the season anyway? According to the National Weather Service of Duluth, the Duluth area typically sees its first frost on September 30th of each year.

Of course, anything is possible in the Northland so it is possible we could see frost well before that. In case you're curious, the Duluth area typically sees its last frost on May 31st. That gives us a good four months to soak in all the sunshine we can!

Although our average day for the last frost is far off, fall may be closer than we think! The National Weather Service of Duluth recently said we will see a cool end to August and start to September.

As for what the winter holds, it looks like it may be a mild one in the Northland. The Old Farmer's Almanac recently released their predictions for the 2020 - 2011 winter season and according to their report, it should be a "light" winter without extremely cold temperatures. However, they do predict above average snowfall for most of Minnesota and Wisconsin with the snowiest periods falling in late December, early and late January and late February.
