We finally made it to April in the Twin Ports. This means we have reached the light at the end of the tunnel with winter - usually. However, sometimes Mother Nature likes to throw a wrench in our plans.

There was a brief period in March where it felt like spring would be arriving early. It felt even more spring-like when Gordy's Hi-Hat announced they'd be opening at the end of the month, which is one of the best ways to tell that the new season is around the corner.

The West Duluth Dairy Queen also opened for the season. This is another amazing sign that spring is on the horizon. However, despite a few nice days here and there, spring wasn't really anywhere to be found.

We also had a late-month snowstorm that brought incredibly icy conditions and cold temperatures to the region. While this wasn't unexpected, it was still a bummer for those of us looking forward to some nice weather.

Now, we finally may be able to put winter behind us, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. Of course, you have to take what they forecast with a grain of salt as they make long-term weather predictions by region.

Whether you believe what they forecast or not, it is fun to look ahead of a month and see what they are predicting. I don't think anyone will be complaining about their forecast for the month of April in the Twin Ports.

Overall, the Old Farmer's Almanac says we will see a mild month ahead with no winter in sight. They are forecasting some spring thunderstorms and warm temperatures. I will take it!

Here's a breakdown of their forecast:

  • From April first through the fourth, we will see sunshine with warm temperatures.
  • From the fifth through the twelfth, we will see thunderstorm activity. Temperatures will remain warm.
  • From the thirteenth through the twenty-fourth, expect scattered thunderstorms and mild conditions.
  • For the last few days of the month, expect more thunderstorms. The sun will peak its head out during the last few days of April and temperatures will cool off a bit.

It will be warmer than average, with an average high of fifty-one degrees. I am so ready for spring and I am pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say that.

As for last month, the Old Farmer's Almanac was pretty spot on. They said we would see rain and snow mixing often throughout the month. They also stated that the end of the month would result in winter-like conditions, which it did.

As we head into hopefully some warmer weather, take some time to clear out storm drains so when snow begins to melt, flooding isn't as bad. I am more than ready for the snow to melt so fingers crossed we are done with winter.

I think everyone is ready to be done with winter. It can make people seemingly lose it after awhile. One example of this comes courtesy of Wisconsin, where a man caught a theft-in-progress from his very own garage. He decided to follow the suspects and t-bone them when he had the chance. Yikes.
