Our Northland Signature Golf Hole Tour continues this week - presented by Duluth Dodge, as we highlight the signature hole at courses on the 2022 Northland Golf Card.

What's a signature hole? It's that extra-memorable or unique hole that often stands as the "signature" element of the course. Whether a unique aspect to the green, an interesting hazard, a spectacular view, or any number of other things, these usually are the holes golfers tell their buddies about after visiting a course.

This week, we visited Big Fish Golf Club, in Hayward, Wisconsin. This 18-hole course, designed by legendary golf course architect Pete Dye, has earned recognition as one of the best in Wisconsin.

While a decent amount of the courses on the Northland Golf Card are on the shorter side, this is not one of those courses. From the back tees, this par-72 championship course plays 7,231 yards, with five holes over 500 yards.

Each hole at Big Fish is distinctly different, offering a huge variety of stunning scenery and unique challenges through your round. The front 9 is a wide-open, links-style course. Accented with deep bunkers and tall grass boundaries, it offers an experience rare to the Northland.

At the turn, the quaint Mulligan’s Pub protrudes from the hillside, offering food and beverages in the middle (or at the end) of your game. Looking like a European pub, it offers some great views and a nice atmosphere to accompany your experience at the course.

After the turn, your round transforms from wide open spaces to a journey through the lush forest of Northern Wisconsin. Referred to by one of the staff as the "parkland" part of the course, the gorgeous tree-lined fairways and varied elevations make the second half of your round like you're playing on a different course.

Identifying the signature hole at Big Fish was a challenge, with each hole offering so much unique charm and character. The golf pro at the course mentioned a particular pride in hole 17. This is the longest hole on the back 9, and the second longest hole on the course. Playing 555 yards from the back tees, this par-5 monster concludes with a shallow green that will challenge you on your approach.

As with many of the courses we've visited, it is hard to pick just one! Take a look at our visit and the signature hole in our course tour video below!
