Former Twins Infielder Brian Dozier Announces Retirement After 9 Years

Brian Dozier announced Thursday that he is retiring after nine years in Major League Baseball. He spent the first seven of those years as a Minnesota Twin before being traded to Los Angeles in 2018.

Dozier scored 593 runs with the Twins, 491 RBIs, hit 202 doubles, 21 triples, and 167 home runs. That's the most home runs by a Twins second baseman. He was appeared in the 2014 Home Run Derby at the All Star Game. He returned as an All Star in 2015. Dozier also won the Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2017. Dozier was a part of the World Series Champion Washington Nationals team in 2019.

He had an impressive franchise record 11 game extra base hit streak in 2016. From 2014-2017 he batted 127 home runs which was the 6th most in the MLB in those years. In 2016 he reached the 40 home run mark with 42 homers in the season, making him only the second Twin to reach that mark behind Harmon Killebrew's 49 homer run season.

Dozier was drafted in the eight round in 2009 by the Twins originally as a short stop. He moved to second base in 2013 where he played until being traded in 2018 to Los Angeles Dodgers, then playing with the Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres, and New York Mets, finishing his career in the National League.

Dozier's MLB stats end with a batting average of .244, on base percentage of .325, and on base plus slugging percentage of .767.

Off the field Dozier received many honors including the 2013 Mike Augustin "Media Good Guy" award. He also won the Twin's 2014 Heart and Hustle Award, and the Carl R. Pohlad Award for Twins Outstanding Community Service.
