This week will bring some additional closures and delays within the existing Twin Ports Interchange / Can of Worms road project.  As they have since the beginning of the work in that area, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is working to get the word out in advance so that there are no surprises.

According to details released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, drivers can expect closures near 27th Avenue West and I-35 on April 22 and April 23.  The closures are tied to the replacement of the 27th Avenue West Bridge. The scheduled work will occur during the overnight hours of 8:00 PM to 3:00 AM to help minimize traffic delays and obstructions.

Here are the specifics tied to the closures - according to MNDOT:

  • Thursday, April 22 at 8:00 PM - the northbound ramps will close for one hour.
  • From 9:00 PM on Thursday, April 22 to 1:00 AM on Friday, April 23 - northbound I-35 will completely close.  Traffic will be rerouted up and down the ramps at 27th Avenue West.
  • I-35 will reopen to traffic at 1:00 AM on Friday, April 23 and the ramp from 27th Avenue West onto southbound I-35 will close until 3:00 AM.

Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation remind drivers to be alert, cautious, and observant to the evolving nature of any road work project; this is especially true in the Twin Ports Interchange / Can of Worms project - which represents a major undertaking.  Observe signs and signals and watch for changing conditions.
