The Minnesota Vikings are apparently not happy with their QB options with only one preseason game left before the season opener.

So the team went out and traded with Las Vegas, a team which they played during week one of the preseason, for a fifth-year pro who has started in 17 games playing for the Raiders, the Browns, 49ers, and the Eagles. QB Nick Mullens joins the Vikings, pending a physical, in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Mullens is no stranger to Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, they worked together in San Fransisco and in Cleveland. Mullens joins the Vikings as a potential backup option for Kirk Cousins, as both Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond have had a rough preseason.

In his 20 games played in the NFL, Mullens is 407 of 630 attempts for 4,861 yards with 26 touchdowns and has a passer rating of 87.3. The veteran backup entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, and when he played the Vikings in the first preseason game, he ended with 94 passing yards and a touchdown with a passer rating of 147.2.

I don't see the Vikings having more than two QBs on their roster for opening week, so two of the four QBs currently employed by the Vikings will most likely be cut, and Cousins isn't one of them, so do the math.

The Vikings will open the season at home versus NFC North division rivals Green Bay Packers, and at this point, the Packers are going into the game as -2.5 point favorites.
