St. Louis County has announced that they are temporarily closing two of their household hazardous waste sites due to the response to COVID-19.  County officials have closed the sites in Virginia and Hibbing to allow better staffing at their solid waste sites at this time.  The county landfill, transfer stations, and solid waste drop off sites all remain open.

Citizens who have household hazardous waste items are requested to keep them until the sites re-open.  Household hazardous waste items include things like paint, household cleaners, rechargeable batteries, and fluorescent light bulbs.  In the case of the need for emergency drop-off of these items, you're asked to call 218-741-8831 to make an appointment; staff will try to accommodate as schedules permit.

The Governor's Executive Order calling for Minnesotans to stay home except for essential needs March 27-April 10 doesn't affect solid waste sites, and people are allowed to drive to drop off trash and recycling.
