From the Major Leagues to Little League the COVID-19 Pandemic has drastically changed the sporting world. But, one local Little League Team is hoping they can be back out on the field by July 1.

If the Duluth city leaders decide to open up city properties for organized team sports, then Western Duluth Little League hopes to be out on the field. Western Duluth Little League President Mathew Peterson told WDIO in order for their organization to consider if the league were to play this summer he said "We have discussed making sure the kids have masks, making sure that hand sanitizer is available. Equipment is not shared. Making sure equipment is sanitized, making sure that spectators are observing social distancing guidelines."

Peterson along with many others has been keeping a close eye on the regulations in the city and the state and are hoping for around a six week season or even to offer an option to play in the Fall. Practices would have normally started around this time, Mid May. The date to apply to play has also been extended.

Peterson went on to say to WDIO "It does make us kind of sad that we're not participating. Not able to get out there and interact with kids and share our love of baseball with them, but when the time is right, we'll be able to get out there and do it.  We definitely want to be out there. We know our families want to be out there, our kids want to be out there, but obviously safety is number one. Safety is most important for our families, our coaches, our volunteers, umpires, concession workers, and maintenance workers."
