Highway 23 Bridge Projects Start May 4

Two different bridge projects along Highway 23 in Carlton County kick off Monday, May 4 - running until late October.  According to information released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the following bridges south of Wrenshall will see work crews over the next few months:

• The bridge over Deer Creek - south of Pleasant Valley - will be removed and replaced, and the creek restored.  This project will be conducted with a signal-controlled single bypass lane.
• The bridge over Nemadji River will be removed and replaced and the river below restored.  This project will also be conducted with a signal-controlled single bypass lane.

MNDOT crews will follow the critical service-mandates as proposed by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz; crew members will practice social-distancing guidelines in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Even as general traffic is down at the present moment, as the Stay at Home Order is expected to lift, MNDOT anticipates this changing.  They remind everyone to follow these important reminders for road project safety:

• Slow down when approaching and then navigate through with care and caution.
• Stay alert - work zones constantly change.
• Watch for workers and slow moving equipment
• Obey posted speed limits.  Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
• Minimize distractions behind the wheel
• Be patient; expect delays.
