Packers Matt LaFleur Stands By Field Goal Decision In NFC Title Game
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur says he stands by his decision to kick a field goal in the final minutes of the NFC Championship game. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense was on the 8 yard line and it was 4th and goal. Rather then going for it with a future hall of fame quarterback, LaFleur surprised many and went for the 3 points. He explains that it had to do with the fact that they hadn't got anywhere on the first three downs, according to ESPN.
"If I had to do it again, if it's fourth-and-goal from the 8-yard line, we're kicking a field goal," LaFleur said. "If it's fourth-and-goal from the 5, I think we have a different discussion. You've got to play the percentages. We had three shots at it, gained no yards. That's how it is. Some people will agree. Some people will disagree. It in my heart, that's what I felt like was the best decision for us. Unfortunately, it didn't work out."
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers then took the field and were able to successfully run the clock down and win the game 31-26, ending the Packer's season. There was some uncertainty in the following days about whether or not Aaron Rodgers would be returning to the team in 2021, as Rodgers said the future is unclear for everyone. He later then clarified his comments and said he didn't see any reason he wouldn't be back.

Matt LaFleur addressed the question in the media on Monday saying that Rodgers would "absolutely be back." GM Brian Gutekunst said that Rodgers would not be traded in the off season. He was also asked about first round draft pick Jordan Love, Guetkenust said they are excited to develop Jordan as a talented prospect and get him into some preseason games while at the same time competing for championships with Aaron Rodgers.
