Spring of the year brings rising and flowing streams in the area.  As the season changes, local researchers are looking for volunteers to help them monitor the streams that flow towards Lake Superior.  The action is as easy as texting in your observayions.

The data collected each year is used to study a variety of things - from snow melt and rain to how weather and climate can affect streams.  Eight streams that flow to Lake Superior have been fitted with 17 water-depth gauges.  Volunteers who take part would record their observations of water depth.

Researchers have made it super-easy to participate.  They set up a crowd-sourcing app a few years ago that allows volunteers to text their water-depth observations in.  Volunteers don't even need to have a smartphone - any cellphone device would work.  Click here to get more details on how you can take part in this annual effort.
